Rye of All Trades, a home bakery company, opens in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO — A husband and wife duo have opened a business selling home baked goods in San Angelo, including pretzels and cinnamon rolls.

Rye of all trades was opened in 2022 by baker husband Rye Ornelas and his wife Mikera, who handles marketing and orders.

“We are ‘Rye of All Trades,’ which means pretty much anything you want can be done,” Rye said. “We even offer other services such as digital art, large handmade blankets, handmade cards for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays.”

Rye took the time to answer questions about his business:

How did you get started in this profession?

I was always told that I had to sell my food, and after buying a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas, I decided to do it. I started with all things pretzels and added cinnamon rolls. I’m always looking to expand what I can do.

What was the inspiration for your company name?

I’ve always been a “Jack of All Trades”, but I don’t know who Jack is, so Rye of All Trades was born.

Who was your biggest supporter when you started?

My family was my biggest support system to start with. I always have a willing taste tester in my wife, father, and brother. My mother is my reference when it comes to perfecting my recipes.

What should make your business stand out?

All of our products are made to order to ensure that our customers get the freshest product possible. We are also able to customize our orders to meet the needs/wants of our customers. We seek to provide sugar-free options so even those who cut out sugar can enjoy our treats.

What is the biggest challenge in running your business?

The biggest challenge I faced was maintaining the prices I originally set with the recent increase in the cost of supplies. Keeping prices constant and as low as possible are my priorities.
