Ooh & Aah Cookies, which offers personalized baked goods to customers in the UK and Ireland, has benefited from Openreach Northern Ireland’s all-fibre construction across the region.
The award-winning bakery, which is the first of its kind in the UK to offer letterbox-friendly seven-inch cookies, has amassed more than 35,000 loyal social media followers with their unique, personalized products.
Founded in 2015, Ooh & Aah Cookies founders Barbara-Anne McMullan and Ruth Armstrong have a team of eight who handle orders, coordinate delivery, communicate with customers and promote their products online, making fast, reliable broadband essential to business success.
Having previously relied on a wifi dongle to run their business, Ooh & Aah Cookies moved to County Antrim in October 2021 and upgraded to superfast Full Fiber broadband on the Openreach network.
Ooh & Aah Founder Ruth said, “The difference that full fiber broadband has made to our business is remarkable. The speed and reliability we have experienced has greatly improved our efficiency, and processes that previously took longer due to slow network speeds can now be performed much faster, freeing up time for staff to be more productive in other areas of the business.
From monitoring the website to fulfilling orders, ordering stock and communicating with customers, Ooh & Aah’s entire business model relies on access to a decent broadband connection.
Discussing the impact of full fiber on their business, Barbara-Anne explained, “Having reliable broadband service allows us to directly reach our target audience using online advertising and communicate with them on a personal level, as well as regularly monitoring the progress of the campaign.
“Being accessible 24/7 through our website and social media allows us to be found by anyone, anywhere in the world.”
Ruth continued: “Being able to connect with business customers across the UK and the Republic of Ivory has allowed us to establish ourselves as a trusted and market leading corporate gifts brand.
“While we currently deliver to customers across the UK and the Republic of Ivory, we plan to ship further afield which will be made possible through the use of fiber optic broadband. This is part of integral to who we are and what we do.
At the heart of greater digital technology is a robust infrastructure in place that can cope with growing demands and the continued development of new data-intensive technologies and Openreach is leading the charge in ensuring the region has a scalable broadband network capable of meeting these demands – now and for decades to come.
As Northern Ireland’s largest digital infrastructure provider, Openreach has an ambitious network building program in the region and is rapidly bringing ultra-fast Full Fiber broadband technology to homes and businesses. As a result, over 75% of all premises in the region can now access Ultrafast Full Fiber broadband on the Openreach network, i.e. broadband 10 times faster* and 5 times more reliable than current national average.
Speaking about the impact of ultra-fast integral fiber on local businesses, Openreach NI Director Garret Kavanagh added, “We are thrilled to hear of the impact Openreach NI’s construction program has had on local Northern Ireland businesses such as Ooh & Aah Cookies.
“The construction has already provided 75% of NI with full fiber optic access – this is a game-changer for local businesses allowing them to operate, grow and thrive.”
“I want to congratulate the Ooh & Aah team for the hard work and time they have put into making their local business a success and I’m proud of the small part Openreach NI has played in this success. I wish them to all the best for the future.
