A new taste of Asia has arrived in Novi.
Featuring baked goods from places like Korea and Japan, O’Cafe opened earlier this spring. Located at 41467 W. 10 Mile in the Novi Plaza Mall just west of Meadowbrook, it occupies the same space as the old cafe Sip and Joy was in before closing.
Today it looks very different from its time as Sip and Joy with a fresh coat of paint and added decorations to bring in a more at home feel.
“We painted it and changed the color,” said Sun Mi, one of the owners. “We made all things with our hands.”
Inside, customers can find a variety of baked goods traditionally found in American bakeries, including cookies, scones, muffins, and cakes. In another section of the bakery, customers can find more Oriental-inspired baked goods, such as croffles, a Korean delicacy made with croissant dough and baked in a waffle iron.
“We put cream cheese or nuts or brown sugar in it,” Mi said. “It’s very popular in Korea.”
Drinks include a range of coffees and bubble teas, including a honeycomb-based Dalgona Boba Latte.
The store is the brainchild of several people from nearby O’Sushi, located in the mall. They say business has been steady with many customers discovering them when visiting some of the other stores in the square.

“They come in and stop at the dry cleaners and they find us when they come in,” said Sophia Kang, one of the cafe’s owners.
They even have customers who travel long distances for their food: they said they’ve welcomed customers from as far away as Troy and Rochester Hills to buy some of their products.
O’Cafe is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday. More information, including online ordering, can be found at ocafeofnovi.square.site.
